Nix for Development Environments

Nix provides reproducible development environments. If it builds on my machine, it builds on yours.

How It Works

A shell.nix or flake.nix describes exactly what tools and libraries are available. Enter the environment with nix-shell or nix develop.

{ pkgs ? import <nixpkgs> {} }:

pkgs.mkShell {
  buildInputs = [
    pkgs.nodejs-22_x
    pkgs.go
    pkgs.rustc
  ];
}

No more “works on my machine.” No more conflicting global tool versions. Every project gets its own isolated environment.
