Golden Hour

photographylightmorning

Golden hour is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the light is warm, soft, and directional.

Photographers chase it. Everyone else should too.

Why It Works

The sun sits low, so light travels through more atmosphere. Blue scatters away, leaving reds and oranges. Shadows grow long and textured. Everything looks better.

Practical Advice

  • Check golden hour times for your location
  • Arrive 15 minutes early — the best light is often before peak
  • Shoot with the sun behind you for even lighting
  • Or shoot into it for silhouettes and lens flare

The best camera is the one you have with you, but golden hour makes even a phone camera look good.
